Mullally
5830
Part of a 2021 group exhibition titled Symbiosis at the Centre for Craft, 5830 was created in collaboration with the shoreline cleanup group Scotian Shores. 5830 discarded lobster bands were collected throughout Nova Scotia to create this quilt; the pattern of which is inspired by a traditional Eastern Canadian pattern. In Atlantic Canada we are often attached to the image of the lobster, but this artwork draws attention to the need to view this industry with a critical eye towards its environmental impacts.
This work is a true community effort, with lobster bands being donated from Scotian Shores, Nova Scotia Beach Garbage Awareness, Tidy Beaches, as well as friends, family, and the beachcombing community.
